Research analysis on the Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index examined the effect that corruption has on the capability of countries to respond to health and economic emergencies. The research analysis highlights the fact that corruption leaves countries in a weak state and unable to deal with crises as they should and that corruption effectively kills the effectiveness of any countries deeply enmeshed in it.
The research analysis also explored the inability of some countries to provide basic health care for citizens as a result of their health sectors having been underfunded for several years leading to the pandemic.
To overcome the problems posed by corruption, the Research analysis suggests that more stringent policies be put in place to fight mainstream corruption and encourages governments to be more open and transparent in public contracting.
